Hi everyone, I solved my problem using an ultrasound meter. This instrument detects interruptions and short circuits on a pair of conductors. Sorry if I didn't share the solution right away, but it is not what prompted me to ask for your Vs. Help.20 April 2020 at 18:19 #8234
Thanks so much. Can you tell me make and model? As I wrote earlier it is an interesting discussion, it can always help to have a solution at hand.20 April 2020 at 18:35 #8236
sure, tomorrow I take some pictures of the instrument and if it is useful I scan the manual. Ciao20 April 2020 at 19:28 #8238
Many thanks in advance.20 April 2020 at 19:55 #8240A_X_CKeymaster
I am also curious about the system used.
The only thing that comes to mind is the system used to detect breaks in submarine cables in which the characteristics of the waveguides are exploited and the reflection is measured, always present in a short or open circuit, then knowing the propagation speed it is possible to calculate the distance traveled by the reflected wave with respect to the transmitted one. It would be unthinkable to send a submarine to inspect the entire route of an intercontinental cable in the depths of the sea in search of an anomaly.
But I don't think they use that system.21 April 2020 at 18:28 #8293
…. actually, the operation is very similar. I put the link to a photo, but I don't know if it's visible . The instrument is a multifunctional, for conductor failure diagnostics, both breaks, short circuits or low insulation, as well as multimeter. Come ecometro, it calculates the propagation speed of a known signal and represents it as a line on an LCD screen, more or less rippled depending on the roughness of the pair of conductors. Knowing the type of cable and the length, the propagation speed can be set by setting a “cable end”. With the cursor (calibrated in meters), we place ourselves on the peaks of the most significant waveforms. At the distance indicated, an inspection is carried out on the conductor under measurement. Said so, simply.21 April 2020 at 19:01 #8297AmilcareKeymaster21 April 2020 at 19:55 #8303
Azzz! Bello. Thanks so much.
